Roos commits long term to DHL Stormers

Loose forward Evan Roos has signed a contract extension that will see him continue to play for the DHL Stormers until at least 2027.

The explosive Roos is the latest player to be confirmed as remaining in Cape Town until 2027, following the announcement of similar extensions for Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Dan du Plessis and Ruben van Heerden.

A product of Paarl Boys High, the 24-year-old already has over 50 DHL Stormers caps to his name having joined the squad in early 2021.

He made an immediate impression, winning the Vodacom URC’s Players’ Player of the Season, the Next-Gen Player of the Season, and the Vodacom Fans’ Player of the Season awards as the DHL Stormers took the title in 2022.

Roos went on to make his Springbok debut shortly after claiming the Vodacom URC title and after some injury setbacks last season has been back to his destructive best in recent times.

He has made the second-most successful carries in the league this season with 88 and is also fourth on the list of turnovers won with 14.

DHL Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson said that adding a player of Roos’ quality to the growing list of long-term extensions is another vote of confidence in the direction the squad is heading in.

“Evan has been simply sensational since joining us three years ago and at just 24, there is still plenty more to come from him in a DHL Stormers jersey.

“He brings physicality, pace and most of all a fantastic attitude to everything he does and we look forward to watching him continue to grow in our system.

“These extensions and a few more that will be announced soon show that the key players in this squad are committed to our vision and have bought-in to build something special over the next few years, which is very exciting,” he said.

Roos said that the decision to sign a three-year extension was an easy one.

“My rugby career has been transformed here at the DHL Stormers and playing for this team means a lot to me.

“We have still got so much that we can achieve together and I want to play a central role in the future success that is to come,” he said.
