Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

No way a try. Not in a million years. No grounding of the ball.

Douglas Darling
Douglas Darling 1 decade ago

he did get it down after he rolled

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

The ball doesn't need to touch the ground. His arm was wrapped around it, so long as there was no hand under his arm its a try all day long.

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Cerran, it wa not his arm!
No try. Never

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

watch the replay Chris.

Douglas Darling
Douglas Darling 1 decade ago

look at the bloody replays people after he rolled he jackknifed his body as if to reset the ball from the ruck.ball was grounded!

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

I have several times. Sorry guys. I know passions run high but that was definately not a try

Niall Judge
Niall Judge 1 decade ago

Ceeran read the rules. the ball does have to touch AND there must be downward pressure on it. Back to school I think.

Ron Coveney
Ron C. 1 decade ago

I don't think it was a try but it is justice for the 18 points Barnes has given toulon

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Think some people are watching a different game here

Agreed Douglas!

Sam Devine
Sam Devine 1 decade ago

Its a try

Ron Coveney
Ron C. 1 decade ago

I'm an idiot??? The ref screwed Munster in the first half Chris and if you can't see that go watch the football on the other channel

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

Firstly Niall, it Laws not Rules. Secondly, you're wrong.

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Some
People really struggle to be partial at times. Watch the game and watch the play. Not what you want to or think you can see. Toulon for the most of this game have been by far the better side.
The try has given Munster impetus and given us a game. But watch the rugby and stop making statements that make you look foolish

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Allez Toulon. !!!

Ron Coveney
Ron C. 1 decade ago

Hey Chris ... I'll make whatever comment I like mate and I have already said that Toulon were playing better. In fact they might even be ahead without the ref lol

Chris Price

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Footballs on the other side Ron.

Niall Judge
Niall Judge 1 decade ago

Whatever Ceeran, the terms, you have the concept incorrect.

Unknown 1 decade ago

ceeran the ball does have to touch the ground with downward presssure otherwise it is not a try. if the ball is held up by the player with the ball, it isnt a try

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

Ceeran,
You're right, it is Laws, not Rules.
However, on the other matter, you are most definitely wrong.
The ball must be grounded.
It wasn't a try.

Ron Coveney
Ron C. 1 decade ago

What's the score Chris ?? You an lfc fan? I personally just watch the rugby... You should watch a game sometime lmao

Ron Coveney
Ron C. 1 decade ago

Ps it wasn't a try

Simon Harton
Simon Harton 1 decade ago

Watch out for Chris he's a keyboard ninja.

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Ceeran. Are you new to rugby by any small chance??
Or in defiant defense of your ignorance of the laws are you going to say you have played for 30 years and are now a coach/referee/expert/pundit/journo???
#learntherules

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Just a sports fab Ron. And one who is not blinded by idiocy

Evan Davies
Evan Davies 1 decade ago

That's a good one mind you don't have to put the ball down just your arm

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

So when your arm is wrapped around the ball, upon grounding on or past the line it won't count as a try?

Niall Judge
Niall Judge 1 decade ago

Ceeran don't change your argument. you said "The ball doesn't need to touch the ground" sigh.... lol

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

A try, worth five points, is scored when the ball is touched to the ground in the area between the opposition's try line and before the dead ball line (the "in goal").[22] A player can score a try by carrying the ball into the in goal and then touch it to the ground while holding on to it.

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

Yes, Ceeran. If the ball doesn't touch the ground, there is no try.

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Give up Niall.... He hasn't a clue

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

so if I'm the ball carrier and my ball carrying arm lands on the oppositions try line, even though the ball doesn't make contact with the ground, is it a try?

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

How many times do you need to be told?: THE BALL MUST BE GROUNDED!

Ben Pearson
Ben Pearson 1 decade ago

This thread is hilarious!

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

Jesus Christ, you even had the actual law quoted to you!

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

NO YOU FOOL!!!!!'

' The ball must be grounded' ... It's in the damn writing!!!

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Just to be clear Ceeran. The ball has to pass between the posts when kicked for a penalty to be awarded.

Are we clear?

Sam Mcilwaine
Sam Mcilwaine 1 decade ago

But why is the ball not round? And where's the goalkeeper? And what's the umpire called again?

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

Here's one for you Ceeran: if you shove the ball up your jersey so that you look pregnant, and then do a belly-flop over the line, is it a try?

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

So if the ball wasn't grounded how was it a try?

Niall Judge
Niall Judge 1 decade ago

Anyways as was previously stated by Douglas, it definitely made the game more interesting. Good defense by both sides.

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

Because Barnes made a mistake, Ceeran.
If he'd referred it to the TMO, there's no way it would have been awarded.

Jack Phelan
JP 1 decade ago

This conversation is making the loss more bearable for a Munster supporter so thanks to all

Jack Phelan
JP 1 decade ago

Seriously Ceeran learn the rule before making the comment

Jamiie Masang
Jamiie Masang 1 decade ago

Lol whoever said the ball doesn't need to be grounded is a Mong it's not American football the ball needs to be grounded

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

I love the circularity of the argument: the topic under discussion, essentially, was "Was Barnes wrong to award the try?"
Ceran's argument has now morphed into "It was a try because Barnes awarded it"
While that does encompass rugby's philosophy that "the ref is always right, even when he's wrong), one can't help thinking that Ceeran has stumbled upon this wisdom by accident rather than design.

Jack Phelan
JP 1 decade ago

Ah no we all know Barnes would give anything against the Irish no matter how clear

Chris Price
Chris Price 1 decade ago

Whoa... Don't blame Barnes for that Jack!! He's only human !! ;)

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

I'll be honest guys, I didn't see it. I sensed the passion in the thread and thought I'd throw a grenade in. Looks a bit 50/50 but is Barnes not in the best position to make that call. He's never done any Irish player any favours in the past so why start now. Jack it's Laws, not rules. Chill out you lot, Wilkinson was always going to kick Toulon to victory.

Ron Coveney
Ron C. 1 decade ago

Lol it's funny watching people get bent out of shape

Ceeran Daignun
Ceeran Daignun 1 decade ago

Jamiie if there is anyone that looks like a mong on this thread its you so leave it out.

Ross Quinn McEntegart
Ross M. 1 decade ago

So now you're trying to say "Cyalm down, cyalm down (like one of Harry Enfield's Scousers), I knew all along. I was just trying to get a rise outta yis!"
Sorry Ceeran, won't wash.
You are most definitely the mongiest-looking one here.

Ron Coveney
Ron C. 1 decade ago

Look Munster got within 8 points of a win with a fraction of the Toulon budget.
I'm sure Zebra rugby club could win the euro cup if they had a budget like Toulon.
Fair play to Munster we will see ye all next season for whatever replaces the h-cup. I hope it is not going to favour the big squads

Niall Judge
Niall Judge 1 decade ago

Ceeran u manipulating coward, you were wrong and you didn't know and then you try to change it, that's how it looks, that's how we'll all take it. hilarious. putz

Niall Judge
Niall Judge 1 decade ago

@Ross. too true

Sean Thornton
Sean Thornton 1 decade ago

If u actually watched the replays u will see he clearly grounded the ball!!

Johnny H-m
Johnny H. 1 decade ago

Wow Munster fans have to be some of the most sensitive fans in the world, right up there with Sarries

Jack Phelan
JP 1 decade ago

Ceeran saying it's laws not rules is really showing how desperate you are after that horrendous comment! I'd just pack it in bud ha

David Mcgill
David Mcgill 1 decade ago
