‘RFU would be daft to put themselves in this position’


If Stuart Lancaster, the England head coach, were to select Steffon Armitage
for the England World Cup squad, he could trigger a significant political
fallout with the Aviva Premiership clubs.

Two club chairmen, Nigel Wray,
from Saracens, and Tony Rowe, from Exeter Chiefs, have told The Times
that picking Armitage or other players at overseas clubs for England would
be a “total breach of faith”.



Stephen Vaughan, the chief executive of Gloucester, and Simon Cohen, the chief
executive of Leicester Tigers, warned of the destabilising effect that it
