5 possible England captains

5 possible England captains
With Eddie Jones officially starting his role as England boss today, we take a look at 5 possible candidates for the captaincy.

Chris Robshaw

The current England captain has been a model pro in his time as captain and has led English Rugby well. Except for the World Cup where it went horribly wrong.

Robshaw did take the hit after the exit but his decision making was not at the top level during the World Cup. Will be interesting to see if Jones keeps him on.

Mike Brown

One thing you can say about Mike Brown is that he gives his all. The passion he shows out on the pitch is admirable. Has been England's best player over the last 3 years or so.

However while his passion is a good thing, it does tend to boil over at times and he can find himself in altercations. Some say that is a good thing though.

Might not be number 1 choice after recently revealing that all trust in the England camp is gone after claims that players had contributed to RFU review.

Tom Wood

Has a lot of experience with England and has captained the team before. Always fronted up on the pitch giving it his best.

Did claim an interest in the job after the World Cup, which a lot of people did not appreciate as they thought it was undermining to Robshaw.

Joe Launchbury

Seems to be the favourite if Robshaw was to leave his post as captain. Such a crucial player to England and will always be the first name on the teamsheet.

His early season form with Wasps has been outstanding and he looks to be a leader in a very good Wasps pack.Seems like a model pro and always stays out of the limelight.

However this is all similar to Robshaw. Do England want a like for like replacement or do they want a Martin Johnson type leader, which remains to be seen.

Dylan Hartley

Despite his discipline, Hartley is a fantastic player and leader. Has captained domestically at the highest level with Northampton Saints, leading them to Challenge Cups and Premiership titles.

Sir Ian McGeechan has tipped Hartley to be the next captain, saying he has a good rugby brain and that you can have a very good rugby conversation with him.

Discipline is the issue though, with Hartley missing the World Cup after headbutting Saracens hooker Jamie George. The Northampton man has racked up a lot of suspensions in the last few years which just can't happen is he was to lead England.
