5 things we need to see in Rugby 18

After yesterday’s announcement from Big Ben Interactive & Eko Software that Rugby 18 will launch in autumn this year, much has been said about the hype around the the latest rugby game to hit the market & whether it will live up to expectations.

Rugby fans have been deprived on a quality fun gaming experience since EA’s final attempt at a rugby game which was Rugby 08 launched right before the 2007 World Cup in France. Of course the graphics and quality of gameplay is seriously outdated but the game still proves massively popular with fans as Rugby Challenge among others failed the woo the rugby community.

We take a look at the 5 most important things we think Rugby 18 needs to be a smash hit with rugby fans this autumn.

  1. Ultimate Team

Ultimate Team is the feature that changed FIFA’s online community forever giving players the chance to pick their dream sides and see on field combinations that may never happen in real life. This would be an absolute dream for Rugby 18, Conor Murray at half back with Beauden Barrett, Owen Farrell with Malakai Fekitoa the list goes on and on...

  1. Fully Supported Online Play

Rugby Challenge was the first rugby game to support online play on Xbox or PS4 but it was needless to say it did not offer the best experience for users either. Random matching systems for levels of teams & players meant it was never really a level playing field when you entered the online modes. Friendlies & Divisions could be possible features to make this viable with an environment to cater for both the competitive and less competitive type of player.

  1. Career Mode & Be a Pro

Who wouldn’t want to create their own rugby rags to riches story on Rugby 18? Try emulate Connacht’s PRO12 triumph of 2016 or even take a PRO D2 minnow to the height of European Rugby as the head coach or star player. People went bananas for the World League mode on Rugby 08 so any version of a career mode would be a welcome addition.

  1. Full Licensing

The biggest issue with Rugby games since Rugby 08 was licensing. All we want is to have the the major competitions in the NH & SH fully licensed to give the game the authentic feel with kits, boots, sponsors, player faces etc. This would be the major deal breaker.

  1. Proper Commentary & Match Atmosphere

It’s safe to say Sky Sports partnership with EA for FIFA has been widely publicised and given the a game a new level of realism with famous faces & voices from Sky Sports appearing on the game. Surely BT Sport or Sky would battle it out to have their commentators on Rugby 18 for improved coverage & reach to the rugby community.

To top this off we want to see real weather conditions with the world’s iconic rugby stadiums & no more static crowds. We want to experience the atmosphere of the Stade de France or Twickenham while playing the game to improve the experience even further!
