All Blacks first-five eighth Dan Carter continues to be frustrated by injury and is a doubtful starter for Canterbury's ITM Cup match against Tasman on Saturday.

The latest setback is a shin problem, suffered against Southland last Sunday.

Carter has already missed all of the All Blacks Rugby Championship matches this season, with a broken bone in his right leg.

Injured lock Luke Romano was on light duties today, signalling he's on the comeback trail.
