Andrew Sheridan forced into retirement by neck injury

Andrew Sheridan, the England and Toulon prop, has announced his retirement
from rugby, though it is already seven months since he played his last game.

His was a long and highly successful career and though it is a considerable
achievement for any front-row forward to keep going at the top level until
the age of 34, he is another name to be added to the list of those whose
playing lives were ended not when they elected, but when injury decided.

But this is not like a death in the family.

Sheridan’s is a career to be
celebrated.
