Bookies favourites to replace Lancaster

Bookies favourites to replace Lancaster
With the news breaking this morning that Stuart Lancaster has stepped down as England head coach by mutual consent we take a look at the contenders that the bookies are tipping to replace him.

Eddie Jones

Eddie Jones is quite the flavour of the month from the possible 5 candidates we will look after a tremendous Rugby World Cup campaign as head coach of Japan which included a famous 34-32 win over 2 time winners South Africa.

The former Australia & Saracens coach has experience under his belt which could make him a more reliable option for the RFU. There will be issues if the RFU do decide to go in pursuit of Jones with him joining the Stormers as head coach for the 2016 Super Rugby season. If they want him bad enough, money will do all the talking.

Current odds : 9/1

Conor O'Shea

Currently the director of rugby at Harlequins, O'Shea has made a name for himself in England and is spoken highly of for his impressive knowledge of the game.  With a long previous stint at London Irish as a player, captain, director & managing director. O'Shea is well respected but it would be a huge gamble taking a job as big as England head coach for his first stint coaching in international rugby.

Current odds: 9/2

Jake White

Currently the favourite for the job as England's new head coach, White has winning pedigree with a Rugby World Cup triumph to boast with South Africa in 2007. White has since spent stints in Super Rugby with the Brumbies & Sharks but currently coaches Montpellier in France.

In 2007 White was inducted into the World Rugby hall of fame for coaching South Africa to World Champions.

Current odds: 7/2

Rob Baxter

Baxter currently is the head coach of Exeter Chiefs where he enjoyed a long playing career before his coaching days. Turning Exeter from a Championship side to a highly competitive  Premiership side has been Baxter's main feat to date.

At 44 and just the one professional coaching job under his belt so far once again the RFU may be wary of Baxter's lack of experience but it could be a gamble worth taking.

Current odds: 7/1

Jim Mallinder

Northampton's Jim Mallinder is a serious contender for the head coach position with a proven track record in the Premiership as coach of Northampton Saints. Mallinder took over relegated Northampton in 2007 regaining instant promotion back to the Premiership in an unbeaten season. Mallinder has since lead the Saints to becoming one of the best sides in England & Europe in recent seasons.

Current odds: 9/2
