Fijian Drua dominated last year's NRC Champions outscoring them 6 tries to one. The home side defended well when under pressure and managed to turn over possession at crucial times. Their counter attacks were venomous which reaped rewards on a number of occasions. Perth Spirit just never got going and were guilty of a number of handling errors which cost them at crucial times as well. Fijian Drua Captain John Stewart bagged a brace of tries and the fullback Waqatabu chipped in with 4 conversions and a penalty to get the home side a well deserved victory.
