JWC: Blow for Wales as Thornton out for competition
Wales U20 have been dealt a major blow with the news that their captain Rory Thornton has been ruled out for the remainder of the U20 World Championship.

Thornton, who has also been named in the Welsh senior training squad ahead of the Rugby World Cup, has suffered a knee injury.

An WRU statement revealed that Thornton is now on his way back to Wales for further medical assessment.

Thornton’s place in the squad has been taken by his Ospreys colleague Matthew Dodd, but losing Thornton and the leadership he brings to the squad will be a major setback for the young Welsh group.

Wales are set to play Ireland on Monday in the fifth-placed semi-final, having missed out in Pool A to France and England.

If they lose that fixture then they will be out of the competition, but a win means they will face either Australia or Scotland to finish 5th.
