North Harbour's Ethan Roots suspended for one match

North Harbour will play without Ethan Roots in their Bayleys National Sevens bowl semifinal against Bay of Plenty after he was sanctioned for a dangerous tackle.

Roots was red-carded by referee Mike Lash during his team's 19-12 win over South Canterbury at Rotorua International Stadium this morning.

He was sent off after tackling a South Canterbury player in the air.

A Judicial Officer Helen Morgan called the tackle dangerous but there was no serious injury to the South Canterbury player, with Roots' good record and his remorse, the Judicial Officer deemed a one-match suspension sufficient sanction.

Roots will sit out his team's bowl semifinal at 2:15pm, but will be eligible to play the Bowl Final if his team qualifies.
