Owen Farrell ruled out of Maori All Black clash

Owen Farrell has suffered a grade one quadriceps strain in training and has been ruled out of the British & Irish Lions match against Maori All Blacks on Saturday evening.

The England and Saracens playmaker will be replaced on the bench by Wales fly-half Dan Biggar.

Before news of Farrell's injury emerged, head coach Warren Gatland had spoken of "keeping the All Blacks guessing" with his team selection.

An injury of this nature is believed to take around 10 days+ to recover, which puts Farrell in serious doubt for the first Test next Saturday in Eden Park.

Should Farrell fail to recover in time for the first Test, then Sexton would be almost certain to wear the Lions’ number 10 jersey.
