Premiership & Pro 12 wrap up

Premiership & Pro 12 wrap up
5 games in the Pro 12 and Premiership today.

Sale met Newcastle in the first game of the day. In adverse conditions, kicking was the order of the day with both teams utilising the high ball to draw mistakes from the other which proved to be a largely successful tactic. The mercurial Danny Cipriani showed flashes which exemplified why he was being talked about as a World Cup squad contender earlier on this year but his missed penalty attempt to win the game with the last kick will leave an unsavoury taste in a lot of home supporters mouths. Final score 15-15.

A well-contested match ended with Exeter just edging Harlequins at Sandy Park with a 26-25 victory. Harlequins dominated for much of the first half scoring three tries to Exeter's one but Exeter were ahead with Gareth Steenson in good kicking form. Gareth Steenson extended the lead with a converted try in the second half but Quins hit back with Tim Visser getting their bonus-point try. Tim Swiel missed the conversion and a penalty late on but the Chiefs held on to win.

In the Pro 12, Ospreys claimed the bragging rights in the Welsh derby in what was a rain soaked game at the Liberty. Cardiff Blues were impressive in defence but in the end the quality of this Ospreys side shone through with Alun-Wyn Jones and Sam Davies stepping up to the plate to secure the win for Steve Tandy's side.

At Twickenham, Saracens dominated Worcester Warriors is all aspects of play, particularly in the second half as they scored six tries in total. A mention for the Warriors as they refused to throw in the towel despite being outclassed all over the park as they scored a couple of late consolation tries.

In the biggest result of the day, Connacht left Thomond Park with the spoils after a near perfect display for their first win there in 29 years. Leading by five at halftime, Munster started the second half well, and got a dubious penalty try to get them back in the match, but Connacht responded well to the set back, and a brilliant finish from MOTM Aki in the corner secured the win. In truth it could have been more, Munster being poor for large patches of the game.

Wasps carried their impressive European form into the domestic league with a big bonus point victory at Twickenham. A spirited London Irish defense held Wasps at bay for much of the second half and at half time it looked an even fixture. However in the second half the Wasps dominance continued and they ran in some quality tries. It was a hugely physical encounter that undoubtedly took its toll on both sides.
