Leinster defeat Connacht

Leinster moved up to the top of the table level with Munster after defeating fellow Irish side Connacht 21-11 at the RDS last night. Leinster who lost to Pat Lam’s side in October were looking to gain revenge for that defeat at the Sportsground as they looked to continue their fine form in the Pro12. The reigning champions started the better of the two sides and were able to get the first try of the game with Shane Jennings who was returning to the side after missing through injury going over the whitewash after a maul. Jimmy Gopperth responded with a penalty shortly after and Leinster had an eight point lead. Connacht fought back and were able to go into the break only losing by two with Jack Carty splitting the posts with two penalties, Leinster started the second half the better and were able to increase their lead with Jimmy Gopperth adding a further two penalties as they looked set for a win. Connacht gave them a scare as we entered into the final 10 minutes of the game with George Naoupu touching town to make it a three point game. However any hope Connacht had of winning the game was short lived with Zane Kirchner able to touch down with Matt Healy caught out after attempting to keep the ball in play from a Jimmy Gopperth penalty. The former Newcastle player was able to add the extras with Leinster securing a 21-11 win to go level on points with Munster at the top.
