Some of the top performances of the weekend in Europe

Team

There is a lot of notable top performances from sides over the weekend but performance of the weekend goes to Bath who once again produced some highly entertaining free flowing Rugby in their dismantling of Leicester Tigers in the Premiership semi-final. They will now make their way to Twickenham next weekend where they will look for their first Premiership crown since 1996.

Player

Despite Bath producing one of the performances of the weekend, we are going to give it to Owen Farrell. After missing the last few months through injury Farrell has come into some good form at the right time of the season. Away wins in Premiership semi-finals don’t occur very often but Saracens were able to secure another final day at Twickenham thanks to 19 points from the boot of Farrell.

Referee

With quite a number of big decisions to make in the Munster v Ospreys game, Nigel Owens showed once again that he is one of the most consistent referees in the game. Both sides can have no complaints about decisions not going their way and in particular the decision late on in the game where there was suspicions of a knock on. Owens let the play continue as he was uncertain at the time and Ospreys scored the winning score a few phases later. Owens was then able to keep his composure and go upstairs to the TMO who was able to confirm that the ball had gone forward. With Owens continuing to impress we wouldn’t be surprised to see him taking charge of the World Cup final in October.

Coach

With Bath producing the best performance of the weekend we have to give it their head coach Mike Ford. Since taking over Bath in the Summer of 2012 he has transformed them into one of the most offensive sides in Europe. Leicester Tigers were blown away and could not deal with the attacking threat from the Bath backs as they conceded 7 tries in a semi-final. He will now look to complete the good job he has done with Bath and make them Premiership Champions next weekend.
