The last 5 winners of the World Player of the year.
Ahead of Sunday's announcement on World Player of the Year for 2016, we take a look at the 5 previous winners of the award.

Dan Carter (2015)

Carter signed off on his All Blacks career in the best possible way. A phenomenal World Cup from the out half and a MOTM performance against Australia saw him awarded with the world player of the year award for a 3rd time.

Brodie Retalick (2014)

The second row really cemented his position as New Zealand's main lock alongside Sam Whitelock. In 2014 they reclaimed the Rugby Championship and Retalick became the 3rd All Black in a row to win the award.

Kieran Reid (2013)

The back row had an outstanding year as the All Blacks became the first side in test history to have a 100% win rate in a calendar year. Reid captained the side as McCaw and Carter took time out from the All Black jersey.

Dan Carter (2012)

Carter won his second World player of the year title in 2012 as the reigning World Champions won the Rugby Championship unbeaten. Carter fended off competition for the award from fellow countryman Richie McCaw, England's Owen Farrell and French international Freddie Michalak.

Thierry Dusautoir (2011)

Dusautoir became the second Frenchman to win the award after he captained his side to a World Cup final in New Zealand. The flanker was superb all year as he fended off competition for the award from 3 New Zealanders and 2 Australians.
