Tom Wood urges RFU to uphold policy of not allowing foreign-based players to represent England
On the day that the Australian Rugby Union relaxed its ban on selecting overseas players for their World Cup squad, Tom Wood, the Northampton flanker, urged the Rugby Football Union to uphold its policy of not allowing foreign-based players to be picked for England.

The Wallabies, who are in England’s World Cup pool, will be strengthened by being able to pick players such as Matt Giteau of Toulon, but Wood believes that England should stand firm over the likes of Giteau’s team-mate Steffon Armitage or Nick Abendanon, the Clermont Auvergne full-back.
