Top Attendances in World Rugby

A year to the day that Ireland turned Wembley green when 90,000 watched them defeat Romania at the World Cup, we take a look at the highest attendances in club rugby and international rugby.

International Rugby

Ireland set the record for attendance in the World Cup, but the record for international rugby comes from Australia and New Zealand met. 

109,874 watched New Zealand win 39-35 at Sydney's Stadium Australia, each side scored five tries, including two by Stirling Mortlock, who scored 20 points for the losing side. Australia trailed 24-0 after only ten minutes but were level by half time. Later that year, the stadium became the largest venue ever used for an Olympic Games.

Club Rugby


There's been many games domestically with outstanding attendance's, Munster vs Leinster at Croke Park, Saracens vs Harlequins at Wembley to name a few, but the record attendance comes from the Top 14 when Toulon and Racing 92 faced off in the final at FC Barcelona's Nou Camp. 99,124 fans witnessed Racing 92 defeat giants Toulon as Dan Carter and co. claimed a first Top 14 title in 26 years.
