Wrist injury rules out Tovey

Edinburgh fly-half Jason Tovey is expected to be out for around eight weeks with a wrist injury sustained in last week's training.

The fly-half had went through a scan that revealed a small fracture, with surgery not needed at this stage.

He will remain in the care of the club’s medical team for ongoing rehabilitation and assessment.

Mvovo, Hougaard back in the Springbok squad for Australasian tour

Lwazi Mvovo and Francois Hougaard are both included in the 28-man Springbok squad for the two away Rugby Championship Tests against Australia and New Zealand.

Sharks wing Mvovo comes into the travelling party as replacement for Ruan Combrinck, who sustained a leg fracture over the weekend against Argentina, resulting in him being ruled out for 6 weeks.

Hougaard, who was not considered for the two Pumas Tests because of a knee injury, has recovered and added to the Springbok squad.

Argentina shaken by double injury blow

With Tomas Lavanini sidelined for six months after damaging his ACL against the Springboks, Argentina are rocked by yet another injury, with winger Manuel Montero also set for a lengthy absence as he battles back from a torn adductor muscle.

Both will not be available for the Rugby Championship matches against New Zealand and Australia.

Hooper and Rock get new Bath roles

Bath has announced that their former captain Stuart Hooper will take up the role of Performance and Player Development Director, with Andy Rock taking up the role of Academy Manager.

Hooper will work closely with Director of Rugby Todd Blackadder in running the Performance functions of the Rugby department.

Rock will be supported by current Assistant Academy Managers Barry Maddocks and George Tavner who will continue their responsibility for the senior Academy training programme.

Northampton Saints directors stepping down

Jon Raphael and Murray Holmes, who have each had served as Saints president for a two-year spell, will leave their roles at the end of August.

As a player Raphael was club captain in 1983/84 and played 159 times for the Saints first team, while Holmes has been a respected member of the Northampton business community for many years and played an important role on the club’s committee and then subsequently the board of directors.

Connacht consider new grounds

Connacht are exploring the possibility of a move away from the Sportsground to a larger ground that will accommodate their increasing supporter numbers.

Talks are scheduled to be held between Connacht and the Galway FA who own the ground, with a move to the football stadium meaning its redevelopment and increasing capacity to somewhere between 8,000 and 12,000.

Nic Mayhew joins Brumbies for 2017

Brumbies front row have received a boost for 2017, with prop Nic Mayhew signing a one-year deal with the club.

The loosehead prop started out with Northcote Rugby Club and graduated to North Harbour’s Development Squad in 2010, earning his first ITM Cup cap for the team that same year.

Mayhew left for England to link with Premiership side, Harlequins, in 2011 following recommendation from former All Black Craig Dowd.
