Barba started his professional career with Rugby League's Bulldogs in 2007, playing in the Jersey Flegg competition where he scored 130 points in 11 games before signing for the Cronulla Sharks in 2015.

He has played 168 matches since making his NRL debut in 2008, scoring 99 tries and winning the Dally M medal in 2012.

The former Cronulla fullback’s career in the 13-man game was put on halt after testing positive for cocaine days after winning the NRL Grand Final with the Sharks.

In January 2017, he switched codes to Rugby Union and joined Top14 club, Toulon for the remainer of the 2016/17 season.

After just 4 games for Toulon, Barba signed for St Helens until at least 2019.
