Chris Gibbes

Brother of fellow former player turned coach Jono Gibbes, Chris Gibbes has forged an excellent career as a respected coach in New Zealand.

Gibbes played as a second rower for Hawkes Bay, Waikato, Thames Valley and NZ Colts playing 44 games between 1994 and 2002.

Following his playing days, Gibbes spent four years at Ospreys as a coach before taking up the head coach job at Wakatio.

He led Waikato to two ITM Cup finals, as well as Ranfurly Shield success, and has had international experience as forwards coach with Japan, Georgia, the New Zealand under-20s and Welsh Pro 14 side Ospreys.

He made an immediate impact at the Wellington Lions leading them to promotion back into the premiership division before making the semifinals in his second season in 2018.

He left his role with the Wellington Lions in 2019 to join Plumtree's staff as forwards coach for the next two seasons and stayed on when Plumtree was promoted to the All Blacks.
