Looking ahead to the 2022-23 Heineken Champions Cup draw

The format 2022-23 Heineken Champions Cup is in the pipeline with the official draw being announced tomorrow (Wednesday 28 June). 

The revamped competition sees the introduction of the South African sides into the mix, bringing an interesting new flavour to Europe’s traditional club rivalry. 

The team have been split into four tiers; 

Tier 1 will be made up of teams who finished their respective leagues as winners or runners-up: 

Tier 2 comprises teams who participated as semi-finalists in their leagues: 

Tier 3: 

Tier 4: 

Summary of format: 

• 2 pools, 4 tiers 
• Tier 1 teams vs Tier 4 teams 
• No same-league games 
• Home & away over 4 rounds
