Massive injury blow for Wallabies

The Wallabies have received some troubling news as playmaker Matt Toomua has been ruled out of rugby for the remainder of 2020 after sustaining a groin injury in the second Bledisloe Cup test on Sunday.

The Wallabies, after performing admirably the weekend before, were outplayed by the All Blacks 27-7 at Eden Park.

Toomua sustained the injury in the latter part of the first half and is set to undergo two sets of scans to confirm the full extent of the damage, but sources in the Australian camp are confident that he will play no further part this year.

According to a report in stuff.co.nz, Toomua is a significant loss as the Wallabies benefitted greatly from the attacking combination he had with James O’Connor while the latter occupied the fly-half channel. In addition to this, the Wallabies are not well-stocked at inside centre, which may prompt head coach Dave Rennie to throw Irae Simone into the deep end with an international debut against the All Blacks, failing which, Rennie will have to select a new-look backline.
