Rassie Erasmus set to sign a contract extension

Rassie Erasmus set to sign a contract extension

The South African Rugby Union is set to extend the contract of Springbok director of rugby Rassie Erasmus until at least 2023 according to Erasmus’ lawyer.

When Erasmus returned to South Africa from Munster, SA Rugby signed him on an unprecedented six-year contract.

However, he only ended up signing a four-year deal, which ends in 2021, due to some of the concerns raised following the appointment and backlash at the time.

With the growing interest around Erasmus' availability, including the English RFU, Erasmus is set to sign a new extension with the World Champions.

Earlier this week, SA Rugby president Mark Alexander said it was ‘hands-off’ when it came to Erasmus and that ‘there is no way we would let him go’.

Erasmus’ lawyer, Frikke Erasmus, told Rapport newspaper: The extension of his term of office is at an advanced stage and expected to be finalised in the coming week.’
