The PRO14 Consider Radical End To The Season - Report

The PRO14 are considering drawing its season to an end with a single match between conference leaders Leinster and Edinburgh.

The global pandemic has left the competition on hold with eight rounds of fixtures remain to be played before the knockout stages can take place.

However, a report by the Rugby Paper has said that the PRO14 organisers have been exploring several options which would prevent them from declaring the 2019-20 season null and void.

One of such options would be a one-off final between conference leaders Leinster and Edinburgh meeting in a final.

When the competition was put on hold, the PRO14 confirmed the Grand Final would no longer be played at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on June 20, rather at the home ground of the highest-ranked side.

Leo Cullen’s Leinster side have had a perfect record so far this season winning all 13 games and lie a full 20 points clear of Ulster in second in conference A while conference B is a two-horse race between Edinburgh and Munster with the former two points ahead.

All the nations involved in the competition have summer tours scheduled leaving the PRO14 a small window to operate within, if the tours are to go ahead as planned.
