Vunivalu set for shock Wallabies call-up

Reports from Australia suggest that rugby convert Suliasi Vunivalu is set to join the Wallabies for the remainder of their Tri-Nations campaign.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, the Fijian flyer is set to join coach Dave Rennie's squad and begin training with the group on Wednesday, pending the results of a COVID-19 test.

But the report states it is ‘extremely unlikely’ the 24-year-old will pull on the green and gold in Australia’s remaining two clashes against Argentina.

The 24-year-old Fijian made his debut for Melbourne Storm in 2016 and has since developed into one of the NRL’s premier wings, scoring 86 tries in 111 appearances, playing in four grand finals and winning two premierships.

In December 2019, he signed to make the shift from Melbourne to Brisbane to link with the Queensland Reds for the 2021 and 2022 Super Rugby seasons.

The Wallabies' next match is against the Pumas at Newcastle's McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday week.
