England have won just one of their last five Guinness Six Nations matches against Scotland (D1 L3) after winning seven in a row against them previously, however, each of their last two losses against Gregor Townsend’s side have come by margins of just five points or fewer and they haven’t lost three in a row against Scotland since 1970-1972.

England have lost their last two matches in the Guinness Six Nations, their worst run since losing their last three matches of 2018, while they have also lost each of their last three opening round fixtures after winning five in a row previously.

England have won just one of their last five Test matches at home (D1 L3) after winning eight in a row previously; they are winless in their last two Tests at Twickenham (D1 L1) but haven’t gone three in a row without victory there since November 2008.

Scotland have won their opening fixture in four of the last six Guinness Six Nations campaigns, including their last two in a row – both against England – this after winning just one of their previous 17 such matches.

Scotland have won five of their last seven away matches in the Guinness Six Nations (L2), as many as they’d won in their previous 43 such fixtures; they did lose their last away game however and will be aiming to avoid back-to-back defeats on the road in the Championship for the first time since losing five in a row between 2016 and 2018.

Scotland (82.4%) and England (81.5%) had the best place-kicking success rates in last year’s Guinness Six Nations, while Scotland were also the only side not to miss a single penalty goal attempt in the Championship last year (7/7).

Scotland were the only side to beat 100+ opposition defenders in last year’s Guinness Six Nations (128), while they were one of just two sides to carry for 4000+ metres in the Championship in 2022 (4219, also Ireland – 4570).

England’s Marcus Smith was the top points-scorer in last year’s Guinness Six Nations (71) and also registered over twice as many running metres as any other fly-half in the Championship last year (412), as well as beating more defenders than any other #10 (10).

Scotland duo Hamish Watson (70) and Grant Gilchrist (53) were two of just three players to make 50+ tackles without missing one in the Championship last year (also Caelan Doris – 53); in fact, Watson hasn’t missed a tackle in the Championship since 2019 (v England in Round 5).

Maro Itoje (England) hit the most rucks of any player in the Guinness Six Nations last year (152), hitting the second most in attack (115, Josh van der Flier - 125) and the fourth most in defence (37, behind Gregory Alldritt - 59, Julien Marchand - 50 and Caelan Doris - 45).
