Match Facts

Wales have won 14 of their last 16 Six Nations games against Scotland (L2), including their last eight in a row at the Principality Stadium, with Scotland’s only victory in Cardiff in the Championship coming in 2002.

Wales have lost their last three Six Nations games, their worst run in the Championship since a five-game losing streak spanning the 2006 and 2007 editions.

Scotland come into this match having won back-to-back games in the Six Nations, they’ve not won three in a row in the 5/6 Nations since 1996 when they beat Ireland, France and Wales in succession.

Wales have scored four tries originating from inside their own half in this year’s Six Nations, the joint most of any side (France also 4), while 50% of Scotland’s tries (3/6) have come from that range, the highest ratio of any side.

Wales have averaged the most points per game in the Six Nations this year (27) and are also the top ranking team for average metres (454), clean breaks (12), defenders beaten (25) and time spent in possession (21m 03s).

Scotland have won 7.8 turnovers per game on average in the Six Nations this year, more than any other side, while Wales have won the fewest (5.5); Scotland also boast the best tackle success rate this campaign (89%) having missed a tournament-low 18 tackles per game.

Wales have recorded the best goal kicking success rate in this year’s Six Nations (95%), with Leigh Halfpenny (100%, 5/5) and Dan Biggar (94%, 15/16) boasting the best individual rates of anyone to attempt more than one kick at goal.

Stuart Hogg (Scotland) has gained the most metres of any player in the 2020 Six Nations (305), averaging 76 metres per game; another 76 metres in this match would see him become just the second player in Six Nations history to gain 3000 metres, after Sergio Parisse (3088, Hogg currently on 2924).

Nick Tompkins has beaten 24 defenders in this year’s Six Nations, including a round high seven against England last weekend; only George North (26 in 2016) has beaten more in a campaign for Wales, while Brian O’Driscoll holds the overall record in a single edition of the Championship (30 in 2000).

Hamish Watson (Scotland) has made 62/62 tackles in the 2020 Six Nations, the second most of any player; he has also won a joint high eight turnovers (also Jake Polledri and Maro Itoje) and is one of just four players to make 100+ effective ruck contributions (also Bernard Le Roux, Itoje, Charles Ollivon).

Alun Wyn Jones is set to make his 148th Test appearance when he faces Scotland this weekend, moving level with Richie McCaw as the joint most capped men's player in Test history.
