Bastareaud to make Super Rugby switch post World Cup?

France and Toulon captain, Mathieu Bastareaud, has voiced his desire to test his abilities outside of France and when he signed a new with Toulon, that would see him remain at the club until 2021, he included a clause that would allow him to have a stint outside of Europe.

French newspaper Midi Olympique has revealed that the 50 test cap centre could activate this clause following the conclusion of the World Cup.

The paper speaks of Bastareaud's love for Japanese culture that could see him make his way to Japan with Sungoliath mentioned as a potential move where he would join former Wallaby and Toulon playmaker Matt Giteau.

That move could see him feature for the Sunwolves during the 2020 Super Rugby season.

However, a South African Super Rugby franchise has emerged as a potential suitor with The Sharks reportedly interested in signing the 30-year-old.

The number of French Internationals have represented the Durban based franchise with the likes of Thierry Lacroix, Freddie Michalak and more recently Clement Poitrenaud having donned the Black and White jerseys.
