France second-row Sebastien Vahaamahina received a red card for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.12 (striking) in France’s Rugby World Cup 2019 quarter-final against Wales on 20 October.
During a maul, Vahaamahina grappled his right arm around Aaron Wainwright's neck before pulling it away and launching his elbow back into his face.
Wales rallied after the dismissal and booked their semi-final spot after coming from behind to win 20-19.
Vahaamahina will now attend a hearing before an independent Judicial Committee taking place on Thursday, 24 October.
