Disciplinary update: Sonny Bill Williams

An independent committee has been appointed to hear tomorrow's appeal by the New Zealand centre against the matches counting towards his four-week suspension for dangerous charging.

New Zealand centre Sonny Bill Williams has lodged an appeal against the matches which the independent disciplinary committee counted towards his four-week suspension following his red card for dangerous charging contrary to Law 10.4(g) during the second New Zealand versus British and Irish Lions test in Wellington on 1 July.

Following consultation with the player and his representatives, the appeal has been set for Tuesday 1 August at 18:00 (New Zealand time) and will be heard by an appeal committee chaired by Mr Justice Graeme Mew (Canada) along with Shao-Ing Wang (Singapore) and Stefan Terblanche (South Africa). It will take place via video conference and the decision of the independent committee will be communicated in due course
