Wales secured top spot in Pool D with a hard fought 35-13 win over Uruguay at the Rugby World Cup. Wales opened the scoring with a try, but Uruguay kept the scoreboard ticking over with two successful penalties to head into the break trailing just 7-6 against their more fancied opponents. Wales would have been disappointed with their first half performance with numerous handling errors, but Uruguay defended valiantly. Wales went over for an early second half try to head into the final quarter with a 14-6 lead. Uruguay then picked up a yellow card and Wales capitalized immediately with a penalty try to extend their advantage. Despite being a player down, Uruguay crossed for a try to trail just 21-13 with around 10 minutes remaining. Wales would finish the match strongly, with a further two tries sealing the victory and booking a Quarter-Final clash with France
