Lee Blackett: Matteo Minozzi 'could've gone blind in one eye'

Italian fullback Matteo Minozzi 'could've gone blind in one eye', Wasps coach Lee Blackett has revealed.

The fullback missed Wasps' clash with Exeter Chiefs due to eye injury and if he didn't undergo surgery, he could've lost his sight in one eye.

Providing an update ahead of Wasps' match against Bath Rugby on Sunday, Blackett said:

"He’s had a partial tear of his retina, so he’s going to need a bit of surgery," he said. "So he could be out for six weeks.

"It was a strange one, he just saw the doctor about something, they scanned him, they found it, we don’t actually know when it happened.

"Matteo really wanted to carry on, but it was a case of if you don’t have this surgery you could go blind in one eye, so it's not something that sits well with any of us, and I think as soon as the blind conversation started happening, everyone realised where we have to go, it's Matteo's health that's important."
