No room for Sunwolves In New Australian Super Rugby Comp.

The Sunwolves will not be included in Australia’s new Super Rugby domestic competition.

Melbourne Rebels CEO Baden Stephenson told the media that the logistical issues associated with giving the Tokyo-based Sunwolves a spot in the tournament are too complicated at present for their participation to be feasible.

Australia appear to be basing their competition on New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aotearoa which commences on 13 June.

The participating teams will be the Brumbies, Waratahs, Reds, Rebels and, interestingly, the Western Force.

The Force were last year axed from Super Rugby at the end of the 2017 season as organisers looked to revamp the competition.

Stephenson said:

"Things are progressing really well with the Force but I think the international border restrictions are probably going to make it pretty hard for Japan," he told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday.

"At one stage they were thinking about using their Australian and New Zealand players and some Japanese players but I think that the more they worked through the process the harder it is looking."
