Pirates sign Georgian lock Nodar Cheishvili

The Cornish Pirates have nailed down the signature of Georgian international lock Nodar Cheishvili, who joins on a one-year contract.

Nodar, who has played 11 times for Georgia since first being capped in 2015, arrives from French club Chambery. He has also featured previously with Georgian team Lelo Saracens, and French sides US Seynoise and USO Nevers.

Cornish Pirates’ coach Gavin Cattle said: “Aged 27, Nodar is a powerful player whose athleticism suits the brand of rugby we are developing.

“Also, at 6ft 8ins tall he is a very capable line-out operator who will add much-needed depth and competition within the squad.

“We are really pleased to welcome Nodar to the Cornish Pirates.”

The 27-year-old added: “I’m aware that the English Championship is renowned for good, physical forward packs, I can’t wait to get started and prove myself.”
