Bristol Bears took on the Northampton Saints in a mid-week Premiership fixture at the Aston Gate Stadium. The Bears won 36-13 away to Worcester at the weekend, while Northampton suffered a 19-22 home loss to Exeter. Bristol leads the head to head stats with 11-8 wins. Grayson opened the scoring of the game with a 3 minute penalty kick. Thereafter, the Bears dominated proceedings scoring in the 9th minute after a rolling maul with Thacker going over to score. Leiua went over in the 14th minute after a sloppy defending saw him run over with no defender in sight. Uren went 3 minutes later for another try after a superb flat pass from Thacker to Earl before offloading to Uren. Hobbs-Awoyemi went off injured in the 26th minute and was replaced by Auterac. Sheedy could have extended the Bears lead but missed his penalty kick in the 27th minute. The Saints managed to keep themselves alive during the half but the Bears certainly dominated proceedings. The Saints started the second half the strongest winning 6 penalities in the early few mins of the half. However, they could not capitalize on the penalities. The game turned into a uncontested scrum as the Saints lost both their loose forwards to injury and ended their game with 14 men. Gillespie scored his first try on debut in the 57th minute after a grubber from Grayson behind the defence. However, the Bears dominated the Saints in the last 20 mins scoring 4 tries to seal their biggest home victory of the tournament.
