Premiership round 15: Preview

Newcastle Falcons v Wasps

After suffering a heavy defeat away to Exeter last weekend, Newcastle will be hoping to get back to winning ways against an inform Wasps. After a slow start to the season, Wasps are flying now and are fourth at the moment and could move up to third if Saracens fail to win this weekend. Falcons look as if they will avoid relegation with London Welsh showing no signs of improvement and will battle it out with London Irish to avoid finishing 2nd from bottom.

Sale Sharks v Saracens

Sale go into Saturday’s game on the back of huge win over London Welsh and will look to continue their fine home form this season with a win over Saracens. Sarries were able to get the better of Bath and closed the gap between them and Mike Ford’s to four points and know they cannot afford another slip up if they are to secure a home semi-final.

Gloucester v London Welsh

Gloucester will be bitterly disappointed with their defeat to Leicester Tigers last weekend, with the Tigers ending their six game winning streak. The defeat now makes their task of getting a place in the top six even more difficult. As for London Welsh time is running out for them and their great escape and Gloucester look likely to pick up maximum points when these sides meet on Saturday.

Harlequins v Exeter Chiefs

Inconsistency perfectly describes Harlequins season with seven wins and seven defeats in the league this season. They were hammered by Wasps last week and now look like missing out on a semi-final place and also a place in the final six and Champions Cup spot for next season. As for Exeter they are just a point behind Wasps in fifth and are hoping to leapfrog them into fourth and secure a semi-final spot in May.

Bath v Northampton Saints

Game of the weekend in the Premiership as the top two meet at the Rec on Saturday. Northampton have been leading the way for most of the season and now Bath have a chance to close the gap to one point with a win against the Saints. The Saints struggled against London Irish last week and will be looking to improve their performance against a Bath side who will look to get back to winning ways after losing to Saracens.

London Irish v Leicester Tigers

London Irish will be proud of their performance against the Saints last Friday but in the end it mattered little as they were defeated at Franklin Gardens. With nothing to play for London Irish will now look to finish the season on a high starting with beating the Tigers at the Madejski on Sunday. As for the Tigers they were able to get the better of Gloucester last week and are now just two points off Wasps who sit in fourth. Nothing but a win will be acceptable with the Tigers knowing that they cannot afford to play catch up anymore if they are looking to secure a semi-final spot.
