Readers Team of the Year: Hooker Nominees

Readers Team of the Year: Hooker Nominees

Ultimate Rugby has decided to allow our Readers to pick their team of the year!

We have narrowed the candidates down to just four players per position that you can pick from. We will release each position throughout December with the final team being confirmed before the end of the year.

The selections have been based on the player's performance on the international stage as well as for their club/ franchise.

Vote for your loosehead prop of the year here as we move onto the hooker of the Year.

Vote at the bottom of the article, here are our Nominees:

Malcolm Marx - Lions and South Africa

Marx was up for World Player of the Year and rightfully so, the Springbok and Lions hooker was outstanding throughout the year despite having one or two hiccups at lineout time.

He formed a fantastic partnership with the likes of Steven Kitshoff, Tendai Mtawarira and Frans Malherbe at scrum time was a menace at breakdown time.

He scored more tries than any other forward during the Super Rugby season and made the 2nd most turnovers. At the age of 24, Marx has also nailed down the starting number 2 jersey for the Springboks.

Codie Taylor - New Zealand

Codie Taylor filled in for regular All Blacks' hooker Dane Coles brilliantly making Steven Hansen's decision next year extremely difficult.

Taylor was in stellar form for the Crusaders as they claimed the Super Rugby title for the second time in as many years.

His lineout and scrum work was reliable throughout the year and certainly thrown his name into the mix as one of the finest hookers in the game.

Guilhem Guirado - RC Toulon & France

The French captain will be sorely missed by Toulon when he makes his move at the end of the season after another superb year.

He led Toulon to the Top 14 and Champions Cup play offs. He was outstanding during the Six Nations despite his side's mix results and made a whopping 31 tackles agaisnt Ireland.

He was rested during the June Internationals but returned to the test side for the November tests where he scored 4 tries in 3 games.

Jamie George - Saracens & England

Another outstanding year for the England and Saracens hooker who built on a great year in 2017 where he started all three tests for the British and Irish Lions.

He played a vital role in both Saracens' Champions Cup and Premiership campaigns and was one of England's standout players this year.
