Saracens' centre set for Wales Six Nations call up

The lack of fit centres available to new Wales head coach Wayne Pivac could see Wales call up for Saracens' centre Nick Tompkins who won the Junior World Championship with England.

The 24 year-old was one of the stars of the England side that defeated South Africa to win the World Under-20 Championship in 2014, alongside Saracens team-mate Maro Itoje.

Tompkins qualifies for Wales courtesy of a maternal grandmother, Enid.

Saracens director of rugby, Mark McCall, said: 'I think Nick Tompkins is on Wales's radar, I didn't know he was Welsh until a couple of months ago, but good for him because Nick's played really well this season and Wales have got some issues in the centres at the moment. Nick might have an opportunity to play in this Six Nations, which would be fantastic for him.'

The Saracens' director of rugby expects a typically large Saracens contingent to be included in the England squad, with rookie flanker Ben Earl on course for a first call-up.

But those matches did not ‘capture’ him for England as the Saxons matches were against South Africa ‘A’.
