Super Rugby AU Rd 4 Highlights | Waratahs v Rebels

In the opening game of Round 4 of the Super Rugby AU, NSW Waratahs took on the Melbourne Rebels. The Waratahs lost 24-23 to the Brumbies last weekend, while the Rebels returned from a bye. Koroibete started in his 50th game and led the players out on to the field. The Rebels started the game on the strong foot with a TMO review as early as the 3rd minute, however, the try was not given and play was taken back for a penalty. To'omua got the Rebels on the board with a 3 pointer in front of the posts. Waratahs did not show intent to attack as the Rebels were forcing errors. In the 7th minute, Newsome intercepted a pass from Hodge intended for Koroibete, and with no defenders to beat. he crossed the line to score the first try of the game. Rebels dominated the first half affair. Horton was replaced in the 25th minute for a HIA and was replaced by debutant Joe Cotton. Michael Hooper was sent to the bin in the 30th minute for repeated team infringements in the 22m area. Louwrens ended the action of the first half with a try from a leg drive to push him over the line. Rebels started the second half the stronger of the two and dominated proceedings. Penalty counts against the Waratahs started to increase. In the 68th minute, Holloway was brought on but sent to the bin 2 minutes later for another repeated team infringement. Waratahs did not score any points in the second half. Koroibete wrapped up the game by picking up a loose ball, faking a ball and handing off defenders to score in his 50th game.
