Who's Your Daddy?

Ultimate Rugby take a look at the father son combinations in the coaching and playing world

George Ford & Mike Ford

Mike became head coach of Bath in May 2013 joining his son, George, at the club and guided them to a place in the Champions Cup and an Amlin Cup final.

Mike was awarded Director of Rugby award in 2015 and George Player of the Year in 2015.

He left the club in May 2016 after a poor domestic finish. George has since moved on as well, making the return to Welford Road for the 2017/18 campaign.

Owen Farrell & Andy Farrell

Andy was a former dual-code rugby professional during the 1990's and 2000's. During his time playing League, Andy stood out as a goal kicking loose forward captaining Great Britain and Wigan Warriors.

Making the switch to Union in 2005, Andy joined Saracens and represented England on 8 occasions. He is the current defence coach for Ireland and the British & Irish Lions.

Owen has enjoyed a record breaking season, including another Six Nations winners medal and a second Champions Cup title. He possesses unlimited potential and has quickly become one of the best players in world rugby.

Bryn Gatland & Warren Gatland

Former Waikato stalwart Warren Gatland has enjoyed a remarkable coaching career to date on both sides on the equator.

He led Wales to three Six Nations medals including two Grand Slam wins, Wasps to three Premiership titles and also won a Heineken Cup with Wasps to throw in for good measure.

Gatland has been faced with the unenviable task of leading the Lions in New Zealand this summer.

He will line out against his son in the Tour opener, as Bryn faces off against his father for the Provincial Barbarians in Whangarei this Saturday.

Thomas Young & Dai Young

Dai is the current Director of Rugby at Wasps and former league and union player. He won 51 caps for Wales, a record number for a prop and the only man to have toured with the Lions in three separate decades.

His son Thomas - a flanker for Wasps, was included in the extended Wales Six Nations squad but didn't feature during the tournament. He will be hoping to receive his first cap during the summer internationals.

Thomas has played in 22 Aviva Premiership games this season scoring 7 tries. A potent attacking threat for his side.

Ruan Ackermann & Johann Ackermann

A former Springbok lock, Ackermann played 13 tests for the Boks over an 11-year career. The current Lions coach has agreed to make a switch to Gloucester for the 2017/18 campaign.

Younger son Ruan has seen his game flourish since joining the Lions Academy. The agressive flanker made his Super Rugby debut last year and enjoyed regular game time with the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup.

Johann's impressive form has seen him called to a Springbok training camp.
