Amaya attended The British Schools of Montevideo where grew up in Uruguay.
He got his first taste of international rugby with Uruguay U20 between 2018 and 2019.
Amaya signed for Súper Liga Americana de Rugby side Peñarol ahead of the 2020 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby season, before re-signing ahead of the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
In 2022, Amaya competed for Uruguay at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town
He has also represented the Uruguay national team on 7 occasions.
Ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2023, Amaya has been named in the squad for Uruguay.
