Salmaan Moerat, a highly talented and promising young rugby player, has been regarded as a rising star in South African rugby circles from a young age. Hailing from a well-known rugby family in the Western Cape, with his family's involvement in the Vineyards RFC and his father's representation of SARU during the apartheid era, Moerat's rugby pedigree is evident.

Moerat's journey in representative rugby began at the age of 13 when he showcased his skills as part of the Boland team at the U13 Craven Week. He continued to excel in his rugby career by attending Paarl Boys' High School, where he represented Western Province at both under 16 and under 18 levels.

His standout performances at the 2015 Craven Week caught the attention of selectors, earning him a place in the prestigious SA Schools team. The following year, Moerat was appointed captain of Western Province's 2016 Craven Week team, leading them to an undefeated campaign in the tournament.

His impressive displays and exceptional leadership qualities led to him being appointed as captain of the SA Schools team, where he guided them to an unbeaten run in the Under 19 International Series held in Cape Town. Moerat's impact on the field and his ability to inspire his teammates were clear indicators of his potential for future success.

Following his school career, Moerat joined the Western Province Academy, continuing his development as a player. His talent and dedication were further recognized when he was selected to represent the Springbok U20s in both 2017 and 2018, gaining invaluable experience at the international level.

In 2018, Moerat's progress led to him being named in the wider training squad for the Stormers in the Super Rugby season. During the team's tour in New Zealand, injuries presented an opportunity for Moerat to make his debut, coming off the bench in a match against the Highlanders. This marked a significant milestone in his professional career, demonstrating his readiness to compete at the highest level of domestic rugby.

Moerat's impressive performances did not go unnoticed by the national selectors, and in preparation for the November tour to Europe in 2021, he was selected for the Springbok squad. This recognition reflected his continued growth and contribution to the sport.

In February 2022, Moerat committed his future to the Stormers by signing a new contract until 2025, turning down numerous offers from European clubs. This decision demonstrated his commitment to his team and his desire to contribute to South African rugby.

Salmaan Moerat's journey showcases his exceptional talent, leadership qualities, and dedication to the sport. With his continued development and the support of his team, he is poised to make a significant impact in both domestic and international rugby in the years to come.
