Semisi Masirewa is a rugby union player who has made a name for himself as an outside back. Born on 9 June 1992 in Fiji, Masirewa moved to New Zealand in 2010 after receiving a scholarship to attend Wanganui High School. He later transferred to Feilding High School for his final year of education. After completing his schooling, Masirewa relocated to Waikato and joined the local rugby scene.
Initially, Masirewa faced challenges in gaining attention from rugby unions. Despite playing eleven games for Waikato, he primarily participated in development squads. However, he was given an opportunity when he was loaned to Manawatu to provide injury cover.
During his time with Manawatu, he excelled in both sevens and 15-a-side formats, which caught the attention of the Western Force in Super Rugby.
In 2016, Masirewa signed a two-year Super Rugby contract with the Western Force, marking a significant milestone in his career. He showcased his skills and contributed to the team's success during his time with the Force.
After his stint with the Western Force, Masirewa embarked on a new adventure by signing a two-year deal to play for Kintetsu Liners in Japan. He also had the opportunity to represent the Sunwolves, a Japanese-based team, in the Super Rugby competition during the 2018 season.
Off the field, Masirewa has a family consisting of three siblings. Unfortunately, his father passed away while he was attending Feilding High School. Masirewa is married to Lara, and together they have a young son named Fletcher.
Masirewa's performances on the rugby field have earned him recognition, and he has accumulated a total of 41 Super Rugby caps with 10 tries scored as of June 2019. His skill, speed, and versatility as an outside back have made him an asset to the teams he has represented.
In May 2021, Masirewa was named in the Japanese squad, demonstrating his continued growth and the recognition he has gained in the rugby world. This opportunity allowed him to be part of the team set to face the British and Irish Lions, further cementing his place as a talented and valued player in Japanese rugby.
Ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2023, Masirewa has been named in the training squad for Japan.
