Bismarck Wilhelm du Plessis, born on 22 May 1984, is a South African professional rugby union player. Du Plessis began his career with the Free State Cheetahs in 2003 before joining the Sharks in 2005, where he spent the majority of his career. He later moved to Montpellier in the French Top 14.

Du Plessis is widely regarded as one of the best hookers of his time, excelling both at the club and international level. He emerged from the shadow of John Smit to establish himself as a dominant force for the Sharks and the Springboks. Known for his strength, power, and impressive ball skills, he is highly respected as a tight forward and poses a threat at the breakdown.

Under the coaching of Jake White, Du Plessis played for the Springboks and the Sharks at the Test and Super Rugby levels. He reunited with White at Montpellier for the 2015/16 season. Du Plessis played a vital role for the Springboks in their preparations for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, showcasing his skills and leadership abilities.

During the 2015 Rugby Championship, Du Plessis earned a starting position in the Springbok side, edging out rival Adriaan Strauss for the number two jersey. He accumulated two caps in the tournament. With 129 games played, he holds the record for the most appearances in Super Rugby by a Sharks player, along with 39 appearances in the Currie Cup.

After the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Du Plessis signed a three-year contract with Montpellier and was selected for their European Challenge Cup Final against Harlequins on 13 May 2016. He extended his contract with Montpellier in April 2018, committing to the club until the end of the 2019/20 season.

In June 2018, Du Plessis was recalled to the Springbok squad for the June Test series against England, marking his return to the national side since the 2015 Rugby World Cup. With 79 Test caps and 11 tries, he holds the record for the most tries scored by a Springbok hooker.

In May 2020, Du Plessis signed a two-year contract extension with Montpellier, bringing his total appearances for the club to 90.
