Gaffney went to school in Cistercian College, Roscrea & he is a former Irish under 19 and 20 international represented them at the 2015 JWC.
Gaffney is versatile able to play all across the back three as well as at centre.
After being released by Connacht at the end of the 2017-17 season, Gaffney linked up with Zebre for the 2017-18 PRO14 season.
