Swindon-born Dan play played for Swindon RFC before joining Pontypool and later Blackwood RFC. before joining Newport and training with the Dragons. His debut for the Dragons was against Gloucester in the LV= Cup in November 2010 where his strong scrummaging impressed the regional coaches and cemented his place in the Dragons side. He went on to play 15 times in the 2010/2011 season being a regular in the matchday squad for the rest of the season. Dan signed for the Dragons on a full-time contract in the summer of 2011, giving up work as a roofer. In the opening matches of the 2011/2012 season Dan made a big impact in the RaboDirect Pro12 but has been part of a front row rotation at the Dragons, as one of a number of young props amongst their ranks. In 2015 at the age of 28 with over 100 appearances for the region he was forced to retire due to a shoulder injury.
