17th Oct 1978 1.80m/95kg Assistant Coach

Former Munster and Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery returned to the fold at the start of season 2014/15 after retiring from the game in March 2012.

Life after rugby saw the Grand Slam winning player complete a Masters in Sports Performance at the University of Limerick before joining Premiership outfit Arsenal in 2013 for work placement as strength and conditioning coach.

With 94 Munster caps and 41 Ireland caps to his name the Limerick-man will also work closely with the academy and provincial age-grade squads.

Following retirement from playing and a stint in the strength and conditioning profession Flannery joined Munster’s coaching staff as Scrum Coach at the start of the 2014/15 season and has played his part in guiding the squad to two Guinness PRO12 finals and a Champions Cup semi-final over a three-year coaching period.

In June 2017, Flannery signed a two-year contract extension with the province. May 2019 saw Flannery refuse a contract extension with Munster, leaving the club at the end of the 2018/19 season and soon announced he will be joining Harlequins as their line out coach.

Flannery signed a new deal with Harlequins in February 2022, having arrived ahead of the 2020/21 season to assume the role of Lineout Coach, taking on his current title of Lineout and Defence Coach during Quins’ spectacular Premiership-winning run in his first season.

Tuesday 6 February 2024, it was announced by SA Rugby that Flannery would join the Springboks as their defence coach.
