Crosswell made his provincial debut for Manawatu in 2008, where was a part of the Turbos squad up until 2011.
He returned to New Zealand to play for provincial union, Taranaki, in the opening game of the 2013 ITM Cup after one-year offer from Tokyo's Hino Red Dolphins.
In July 2017, Taranaki captain Mitchell ruled himself out of the 2017 Mitre Cup campaign.
Crosswell, 28, has decided an ongoing knee problem, which has dogged him since 2015, needs rest and attention while he also weighed up the fact that has work commitments would be impacted.
