Ross Thompson, an Edinburgh-born fly-half, was aligned with the Glasgow Warriors prior to the 2018/19 season as part of the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy Stage 3.

Thompson made his debut for the Glasgow Warriors in the first match of 2021, coming off the bench against Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield. A week later, he had a standout performance at Scotstoun, earning the Player of the Match award with a composed display and contributing 13 points on his first start for the club in another match against Edinburgh.

At the representative level, Thompson has represented Scotland in the under-16, under-18, and under-20 age groups, including his participation in the 2018 World Rugby U20 Championship.

Thompson made his senior Scotland debut in October 2021, coming off the bench against Tonga at BT Murrayfield. In that match, he set up a try for his club-mate Kyle Steyn.

Thompson comes from a sporting family background. His grandfather was a Scotland cricket international, his uncle was capped in rugby league for Scotland, and his cousin Kirsty Gilmour is an Olympian in badminton.

In 2019, Thompson was named as Scotland's vice-captain for the World Rugby Under-20 Championship and played in all five matches for the team in Argentina.
